Looking Back Tomorrow: BeauSoleil Live!
Thinking of Mardi Gras and staring at piles of road-blackened snow? Let Michael Doucet and BeauSoleil take you to those Louisiana bayous not far from the Crescent City's legendary parties. To mark 25 years in the business, these pre-eminent interpreters of traditional Cajun music have released "Looking Back: BeauSoleil Live!," a recent live performance from suburban D.C.'s Wolf Trap theater, where the band's fame first took off back in 1976.
Doucet and brother David are flawless in vocals and on fiddle and guitar, respectively. Jimmy Breaux's accordion is the flirtatious counterpart to BeauSoleil's rockin', seductive Cajun blend. The disc showcases 15 mostly traditional arrangements, all guaranteed to vanquish winter lethargy and juice up those sweat glands. Some of the highlights: the irrepressible "Bons Temps Rouler," "Amede," "Grand Mamou," "Pierrot Groulliette & Madamoiselle Josette," "It's You I Love" and "Bon Soir, Tous mes Amis."
