A regional jam band since the Grateful Dead was in its heyday, Max Creek is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with numerous East Coast concerts, including a 9 p.m. show Saturday in the Showplace Theatre, 1063 Grant St.
The group - with fans lovingly known as "Creek Freaks" and thousands of shows tucked firmly under its belt - features founder John Rider on bass and vocals. Most of the other band members have been in Max Creek since the early '80s - including guitarist/vocalist Scott Murawski, keyboardist Mark Mercier, percussionist Rob Fried and drummer Scott Allshouse.
Having started as a three-piece outfit, the group has grown into a five-man band playing a mix of original songs and classic cover tunes, tapping into blues, folk, rock and reggae. Opening for the group will be Reid Genauer, former lead singer of Strangefolk. Tickets are $10 and $12. For more info, call 447-1271 or 874-6677.
