Bernard F. Sikkas, 72, who worked as a plumber and pipefitter for 40 years, died Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) in his home after a lengthy illness. He was under the care of Niagara Hospice.
Sikkas was born in Le Mars, Iowa, and moved to Niagara Falls at age 12. He attended local schools, including LaSalle High School.
Sikkas served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.
He and the former Jeanette Magliocca were married for 50 years.
Sikkas worked for Olin Mathieson Chemical Corp. for 15 years, then for Sisters Hospital in Buffalo for 25 years. He retired from the hospital in 1993 at age 65.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling and participated in league and tournament play.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Michael of New York City and Los Angeles; two sisters, Margaret Beaver and Elizabeth Markel, both of Niagara Falls; and a brother, Peter Jr. of Niagara Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in Prince of Peace Church, 1055 Military Road, after prayers at 9:30 in Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
