It's about time the government helped faith-based groups, whether it's the City Mission, Catholic Charities, Jewish synagogues or Muslim groups. If I was cold, hungry and needed shoes or a coat, I'd go to the nearest place. All of these groups surely need help - they are short of funds and volunteers. Many people contribute at Thanksgiving and Christmas, however, these services are needed all year-round.
It seems that all faiths teach that we are our brothers' keeper. Suppose there are a few converts here and there, so what? We need to be concerned about teen pregnancy, child neglect, drugs, addiction of all kinds and the breakup of families, which leads to many problems. It is time to reach those in need with a small amount of our tax money. At least it's not wasted like many government projects. In my book, it's anything but risky and a benefit to both the giver and the receiver.
