NEW MEDICARE RULE ENDANGERS PATIENTS

Surgery under Medicare has just become more dangerous. With action forced through only days before President Clinton left office, Medicare has ignored more than 100,000 people who voiced their opposition to a new rule that displaces the 35-year practice of requiring anesthesia nurses to be supervised by a doctor.

It is a dangerous decision that doesn't even offer cost savings to the government or the patient, but which will impact seniors having surgery as early as May.
