Sean Connery and newcomer Rob Brown brought their unlikely on-screen relationship from "Finding Forrester" to the Berlin film festival Friday.

Connery stars in Gus Van Sant's film as William Forrester, a reclusive writer. Brown plays a teenage basketball player who tries to pull Forrester from his isolation.

"The elements being as diverse as they are is what makes the interest and drama," Connery said at a news conference. "The script developed basically from a very, very interesting premise for me -- the conflict between the older person and the younger person."

The 16-year-old Brown's talents proved "a fully unexpected pleasure," said Connery, 70. Brown had no acting experience before landing the role.

"Finding Forrester" is among 23 movies competing for the Golden Bear awards, which will be presented today as the Berlin festival closes.
