Beatrice E. Blissett, 93, founder and former owner of Blissett's Children's Clothing Store, died Friday (Feb. 16, 2001) in Medina Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
The former Beatrice Early, who was born in York, Pa., opened the store on Main Street in 1946.
She and her husband, Chester F., already operated a store in Albion, where they manufactured and sold children's clothing. In 1950, the business was consolidated at the Medina store.
After retiring from the store in 1969, she began working in porcelain and eventually developed a second career, producing "Baby Bea" dolls. She sold her porcelain works at area arts and crafts shows.
Mrs. Blissett was an early member of the Save the Armory committee and of the original committee that organized the first home show.
She enjoyed antiques, chair caning and making wine with her husband, who died in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Glenyce Stilwell of Medina; a sister, Dorothy Dunn of New Hampshire; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Burial will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery, Town of Ridgeway.
