A new computer training center opened Thursday in Cheektowaga with Lt. Gov. Mary O. Donohue on hand to cut the ribbon.
The New Horizons Computer Learning Center features six state-of-the-art computer classrooms and a testing center.
New Horizons expects to double its staff and classrooms at 4950 Genesee St., one mile east of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, by the end of the year.
The center's courses range from introductory classes on how to use computers to advance courses to become a Microsoft-certified systems engineer.
New Horizons can also tailor a course to the specific needs of a company, said Tom Acara, sales manager.
"We can also bring cases of laptops and put on a course in a company's conference room," he said.
Computer systems analysts, engineers and scientists are expected to be the fastest growing occupations through 2008, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
New Horizons used to have a franchise in Amherst. The owner sold that location and several others to IKON Technology Solutions.
However, because computer training is one of the fastest-growing segments of the information technology market, W.C. Dow & Associates, owned by Bill and Sue Dow, opened a new franchise in Cheektowaga.
