A Hip solo act
Strictly Hip vocalist Jeremy Hoyle continues his solo gig at Gabels, 1285 Hertels Ave., at 11:30 p.m. Mondays through February. Hoyle showcases the Hip, Lowest of the Low, the Cure and other "cool sing-along" music in his laid-back style.
Shelter from the Storm
It's time to grab your leopard-skin pillbox hat, harmonica and guitar: The 13th annual "Bob Dylan Imitators Contest" will be held at Nietzsche's on March 21 beginning at 8 p.m. Last year, more than 20 musicians took part before a jam-packed crowd, with Redheaded Stepchild's Kathryn Koch and David Nanni taking top honors for their unforgettable rendition of "Ballad of a Thin Man." Cash and cool rock 'n' roll prizes will once again be given out. To perform, sign in at 7. Tickets are $4, which includes entry fee. For more information, call 886-8539.
Blu grooves returns
DJs Dr. Wisz and Scotty return to the nightclub scene this month as Deja Blu, bringing acid jazz, trip hop, abstrakt hip hop, funk soul and international grooves. Catch Deja Blu at 10 this evening for a post-Valentine Lovers Groove in the Calumet, 54 W. Chippewa and Feb. 23 at BLU, next to Osaka at 3112 Main St.
The Seth Reinhart Band makes its Buffalo debut Saturday in Cloud 9 on a bill with Monkey's Hamlet, Salt Peter and 36 Hours. Doors open at 7 p.m . . . Original Skin, featuring former Bread Gone Wry mates Guillermo Izquierdo and Chris Mattioli, debuts at 9 p.m. Saturday in the Tap Room. Also performing are Martly and Last Conservative.
It's a happening
Musicians, fans and industry insiders join together Wednesday for a "WNYMusic.com Happening." The evening is the brainchild of photographer and scene supporter Jeff Garbaz, who was looking for a way to unite the area's original music scene. Free networking tables will be provided to bands. It's a free, all-ages event beginning at 7 p.m. with music at 8, upstairs at the Tap Room, 320 Pearl St.
