WHO: Sara Lee
WHEN: 9 p.m. Wednesday
WHERE: Nietzsche's, 248 Allen St.
ADMISSION: $5 advance; $7 door
Sara Lee spent 20 years as a bass player playing in the background for major musical acts. Now, thanks to Ani DiFranco's Righteous Babe Records, Lee is moving to the front of the stage.
Last fall, Lee released her first solo CD, "Make It Beautiful," for Righteous Babe. It showcased Lee's pop/funk style combined with dance-driven music; sort of new wave with a little disco mixed in for good measure. DiFranco made a guest appearance on the album, as did some of the other artists Lee has worked with, such as Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls and Barbara Gogan of the Passions. Lee's resume also includes performances with the B-52s, Joan Osborne, Robert Fripp and Fiona Apple. She regularly tours with DiFranco and appears ready to make her own mark in music. See for yourself Wednesday in Nietzsche's.
