Marie M. Phillips, who was active in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, died Friday (Feb. 9, 2001) in her Amherst home. She was 70.
Born Marie Philipps in Buffalo, she graduated from Canisius College in 1979, earning bachelor's degrees in religious studies and anthropology.
She worked for many years as the director of religious education at Saint Leo's Church, where she also served as a Eucharistic minister.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Jerome J.; two daughters, Margaret P. Stehlik of the Town of Tonawanda and Deborah of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Ferdinand Philipps of Eggertsville and John N. Philipps of Getzville; a sister, Audrey Melber of Tonawanda; and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered today, in St. Leo the Great Church, Amherst. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
