Joyce E. Blake, 71, a former nurse and an authority on blown glass, died Feb. 6, 2001, in her Elma home after a long illness.
A native of French Creek, the former Joyce Rouse was a 1946 graduate of Clymer Central School and a 1950 graduate of Hamot Hospital School of Nursing, Erie, Pa. She worked as a registered nurse at Buffalo General Hospital from 1950 to 1961.
A resident of Elma for 40 years, Mrs. Blake was an accomplished quilter and designed many quilts and wall hangings.
She also enjoyed antiques and wrote two books on antique blown glass whimsys, unusual blown glass items. She was the author of "Glass House Whimsys" and co-author of "Glass House Whimsys, an Extended Reference."
Mrs. Blake was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora.
Her husband, Leonard S., died in 1981.
She is survived by a sister, Audrey Rouse of Clymer.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, 9 Paine Ave., East Aurora. Burial will be in Newport, Vt.
