The hunt is on in Nashville and New York City for an actress to play the late country music great Tammy Wynette in a stage show about her life.

"Stand by Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story" will begin a six-week run at the Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 13, the Gaylord Entertainment Co. announced Wednesday.

Auditions to play Wynette will be April 9-10 in Nashville at the Ryman and April 18-19 in New York at a location to be announced later.

The show has the blessing of the last of Wynette's five husbands, George Richey, who has control of her estate.

Wynette died Oct. 6, 1998, after years of painful medical problems. Controversy over whether Richey and Wynette's doctor played a part in her death won't be addressed in the show, writer Mark St. Germain said.
