Carol A. Steuernagel, chairwoman of the North Tonawanda Housing Authority, has advised the Common Council that low-cost public housing in the city is jeopardized by lack of funding.

In a letter read to the Council, Steuernagel said neither the city nor the state has responded to the authority's continued pleas for housing subsidies.

She said the authority cannot support itself with the low rents it charges for living units.

The city's new budget is scheduled for adoption at a Council meeting at 7 this evening.
