Eastman Kodak Co. said it bought closely held Pakon Inc. for an undisclosed price to gain a maker of scanners that turn rolls of film into digital files used by photo labs.

Pakon, which also sells slide-mounting systems, will become a unit of the world's largest photography company, Kodak spokesman Charlie Smith said.

Previously, Minneapolis-based Pakon provided scanners for Kodak customers in Latin America.
