CONVERT PLAYGROUND INTO VETERANS' PARK

How many sports facilities honoring veterans does Lackawanna really need? For more than 30 years, I was under the assumption that Memorial Field, located on Ridge Road at Center Street, was named in honor of Lackawanna's war veterans.

To change the name of Ron Jaworski Stadium is a slap in the face to him and his family, as it would be to the families of Col. J.B. Weber or Matthew Glab should their names be removed from their respective memorial posts.

Although there is no comparison between sports heroes and war heroes, Lackawanna should not disrespect Jaworski by stripping him of an honor bestowed him by the city 20 years ago.

A better alternative would be to convert and rename the Victory Avenue Playground into a park with memorials, park benches and a gazebo or band shelter for public ceremonies and gatherings. This would be a great location since it is located next to the Weber Post.
