Emelia Konieczyn, 81, of Peoria, Ariz., a former resident of Buffalo and Clarence, died Jan. 26, 2001, in Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital, Glendale, Ariz., after a long battle with emphysema.
Born Emelia "Emily" Grezlikowska in Buffalo, she lived in the city until 1994, when she moved to Clarence. She moved to Arizona in 1997.
She was employed as a laborer with Westvaco Corp. in Buffalo for 25 years.
Her daughter, Lucille DiPasquale of Peoria, said her mother loved bingo and cherished the love and camaraderie she shared with others playing the game in the Peoria Senior Center.
She said her mother, who used a wheelchair because of her ailment, had an ageless beauty, relentless spirit, wit and straightforwardness. She also had a strong faith in God.
Her husband of 31 years, Bernard, died in 1973.
Besides her daughter, she is survived by a sister, Felicia "Sally" Boryszewska of McMinnville, Tenn., and four grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Helen's Catholic Church, Peoria.
