EUGENE H. RESZEL

Eugene H. Reszel, 63, of Depew, a retired businessman, died Jan. 27, 2001, in his home in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla., after a long illness.

The owner and operator of Merry Mart on Seneca Street in Springbrook for 19 years, Reszel was forced to retire in 1981 after becoming disabled in a fall from a tree.

Earlier, he and his wife operated a bakery on Clinton Street, West Seneca, for five years.

A Buffalo native, he moved to Depew in 1988.

He had served in the New York Army National Guard for 10 years.

Reszel was known for building birdhouses that he gave to friends and family members.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Josephine Bartel; a son, David of Depew; his mother, Eugenia of Lancaster; a sister, Dorothy I. Richter of Lancaster; and a granddaughter.

A memorial Mass was offered today in St. James Catholic Church, Depew.
