Services for Edward Joseph Grotz, 74, a retired assembly line worker at the General Motors Chevrolet plant and an auto mechanic, were held Jan. 21 in Craig Funeral Home, St. Augustine, Fla.
Grotz was born in Hamilton, Ont. His family moved to Buffalo when he was a child, and he attended city schools.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1946.
He moved to North Tonawanda in 1949.
Grotz worked for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He also operated an automotive business, Ed's Auto Electric, in North Tonawanda. He reopened his automotive business in St. Augustine after he and his wife moved there in 1981.
He married Helen Johns in 1967. She died in 1990.
Grotz was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in St. Augustine, the St. Augustine Chess Club and the Singles Club of St. Augustine.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanie Getsler of Dunedin, Fla., and Vicki Wantz of St. Augustine; four sons, Thomas of St. Augustine, Terry Johns of North Tonawanda, Scott Johns of Kenmore and Mike Johns of Georgia; and three sisters, Dorothy Guzzo and Elizabeth Bascynski, both of West Seneca, and Margaret Liberty of Clearwater, Fla.
