Charles Turek of Williamsville, a retired chemist, died Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a brief illness. He was 84.
Born in West Park, Pa., Turek graduated from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa., with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He also completed courses in plastics at the University at Buffalo.
He came to the Buffalo area in 1943 and was employed for 35 years at Bell Aerosystems in Wheatfield in materials development and research, until his retirement in 1978. In that field, he received awards for original contributions.
Turek is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Grace Willson; two sons, C. Bruce of Rochester, Pa., and William A. of Denver; a daughter, Shirley K. Overton of McCall, Idaho; and a brother, William of Pittsburgh.
A memorial service was held today in Kenmore United Methodist Church.
