TOYOTA PICKS ALABAMA FOR PLANT

Toyota Motor Corp. plans to build its first V-8 engine factory outside Japan in north Alabama.

The $220 million factory, which will employ about 350 people, will make 120,000 engines annually for the North American-built Tundra pickup truck, company and state officials said Tuesday.

Toyota plans to begin production in summer 2003. Two other foreign automakers have plants in Alabama -- Mercedes-Benz and Honda.
