The name change from Ron Jaworski Stadium to Veterans Stadium in Lackawanna was long overdue. Honoring our American veterans who made sacrifices so that we can enjoy our democratic freedoms should be our first priority.
Calling Jaworski a hero is questionable, to say the least. His visits to the "Steel City," his hometown, are almost nonexistent. Countless invitations by fund-raising organizations to help facilitate their philanthropic efforts have been continuously ignored by Jaworski.
Those opposed to the name change should open their hearts, consciences and minds to where our priorities lie. Should we honor an individual who is oblivious to his hometown roots? Would it not be more practical and satisfying to know that our stadium will leave a legacy in honor of those men and women who served our country and were responsible for the democratic freedoms we all enjoy today?
