Shirley Flood, 68, of Derby, a dog trainer and retired speech pathologist, died Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) in Mitchell Campus Hospice Center, Cheektowaga, after a brief illness.
Born in Buffalo, she had a master's degree in speech pathology from Rosary Hill College, now Daemen College.
She taught speech pathology for 38 years in the Buffalo public school system, including a long stint at Harbor Heights School 4, retiring in 1991.
She trained dogs through the Hamburg All Breed Obedience Club, which she founded. She raised Kerry blue terriers and judged a number of licensed American Kennel Club sweepstakes.
Miss Flood was a member of the Kerry Blue Terrier clubs of Greater Pittsburgh and of Northern Ohio, the United States Kerry Blue Terrier Club, the Kennel Club of Buffalo and the Kennel Club of Niagara Falls. She also was a life member of the Kerry Blue Terrier Club of Canada.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2050 S. Creek Road Road, North Evans. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
