First-time SUPER JINGO player Sue Byrne of West Seneca is this week's first-prize winner in Game No. 977. She won a trip for two to Captiva Island, Fla., plus $500 cash.
"You're kidding me. This isn't someone from my husband's office horsing around with me, is it? Last week was the first week I ever played," Byrne said.
Byrne said she began playing because "I kept seeing it and seeing it in the Sunday paper, and I thought it would be nice to win a trip to Florida." She isn't sure when they will take their trip.
Her husband, Jerry, is a project manager for Taylor-Pohlman. The couple has two children: Rebecca, 7, and Katherine, 1.
The Byrnes will fly to Captiva Island on US Airways and enjoy a five-day/four-night stay at the South Seas Resort, where they will bask in the tropical sun and enjoy this beautiful oasis. The couple also receives $500.
Other winners are:
Lance Grabowski of Buffalo -- Timber Inn computer armoire, courtesy of Brand Names.
Grabowski said of this week's second prize: "I have a computer and a desk for it, but we'll have to see if this one's better.
"My mother put my name on the entry. She fills them out, and my father drives the entries to The News. They've been doing this since the game started," Grabowski said. Florence and Leonard Grabowski of Buffalo are his parents.
Grabowski works for American Axle. He has two children: Renee, 22, and Brian, 18.
The DiBella family of Buffalo -- one use of the Buffalo News Box at Dunn Tire Park during the 2001 Bisons season.
"How great! That is super. Wait until my son finds out," Nancy DiBella said of her third-prize win.
DiBella is the mother of two: Brian, 21, and Jennifer, 9. She is a substitute teacher aide for the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District; her husband, Chris, is a systems analyst for the Buffalo Board of Education.
DiBella said of her win: "I used to buy Bisons tickets all the time for my husband and son for Easter, so they'll really enjoy this."
DiBella has "been playing off and on for quite a few years."
Donna Hyman of East Aurora -- two tickets to three Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra concerts.
Hyman was pleased with her fourth-prize win. "Oh, nice. We haven't been to the Philharmonic for a long time," she said.
"I started playing about nine months ago. This is the first time I won," Hyman said. "My husband told me I should try it -- what have you got to lose?"
Hyman works for Buffalo Computer Graphics doing computer accounting, and her husband, Larry, is retired from ABF Trucking. They have a daughter, Kara, who attends Niagara University.
Irene Rozek of Williamsville -- two tickets to a Buffalo Sabres game.
The fifth-prize winner said: "I've never been to a Sabres game. We watch it on television."
Rozek won a trip to Florida 10 years ago. "We won the top prize," she said. "My husband, Leo, and I took our two oldest grandchildren. We had a wonderful time."
Leo Rozek is retired from Harrison Radiator. The couple has four children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
