SMALL COMPANIES HURT BY HIGH TAXI INSURANCE

On March 1, all taxis, black-car services and limousines must be renewed and insured. The problem is that four insurance carriers are not renewing or insuring any taxis or livery vehicles in New York State. Of the three remaining insurance carriers, two do not have to insure these vehicles. That leaves only the New York State Insurance plan, which costs local taxis in Buffalo more than $7,000 per year. This is putting many small companies and independent operators out of business. As a result, getting a taxi will be next to impossible.
