Multibillionaire investor Warren Buffett's company has lost its latest try to block public access to two of its quarterly holdings reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The commission denied to review an appeal by Berkshire Hathaway asking that the company's reports for the quarters ended December 1999 and March 2000 be kept confidential.

The SEC's investment management division last August denied Berkshire's original request.

The company also has asked that portions of its reports for the quarters ended June 2000 and September 2000 be kept confidential, but no decisions have been made on those requests.

Berkshire Hathaway, which owns The Buffalo News, has until Thursday to challenge the commission's decision before the disputed reports are made available to the public.
