Music and ambience

Here's one way to beat the winter doldrums: Dance or just relax to music by the Sid Winkler Band in the elegant Salvatore's Italian Gardens the next two weekends. The band will perform smooth jazz and highlights from musicals in performances 9 p.m. to midnight tonight, Saturday and Feb. 9-10. The Sid Winkler Band's February schedule also includes two Valentine's Day shows - a matinee at noon in the Lancaster Opera House and an 8:30 p.m. performance in Zuzon, 5110 Main St., Williamsville. These shows will be performed as a trio with Susan Rozler (bass, guitars, percussion), Joe Rozler (keyboards, lead guitar and vocals) and John Bacon (drums).

Short spins

Steve Roth and Brad Snyder are getting into Groundhog Day with an evening of acoustic folk and alternative music 8-11 p.m. today in Higher Grounds Coffeehouse, 3622 Sheridan Drive, Amherst. . . . Alex Lynne has a new page at, where you can hear and download songs.

Early shows

ESI is scheduling weekend shows at four clubs with doors as early as 6 p.m. and performances finished by 11:30 p.m. "We're looking to see if we can turn Buffalo around to an earlier club city. Doors open at 6 and the music ends by 10:30 p.m. each Saturday in the Backstage Pub (454 Pearl St.) and the Funhouse (1830 Abbott Road, Lackawanna), with regular programming kicking in afterwards.
