Gary W. Sheffler, 39, of Charlton, a former Buffalo-area resident, died unexpectedly Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2001) in Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 1979 graduate of Amherst High School and earned a business degree from Gannon University in Erie, Pa.
He was a sales representative for Thomas Register Publishing Co. in New York City and had received the company's top-salesman award.
A sportsman, he loved to hunt, fish and play golf. He was associated with the Burnt Hills Baseball Club and helped establish the Indian Meadows Junior Baseball program.
He and his wife, the former Kelly Lynn Mary Hazelet, were married in 1987.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Michael Dylan and Kyle Wallace, both of Charlton; his parents, Dr. Harold G. and Mary Louise of Amherst; a brother, Harold of Washington, D.C.; and three sisters, Connie Hitchcock of Amherst and Pamela Glick and Barbara Mernen, both of Williamsville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island, after prayers at 9:30 in Kaiser Funeral Home, 1950 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
