The Brocton School Board will enlist the services of Richard G. Timbs, superintendent of Erie II Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Board of Cooperative Services, to help in the search for a new district superintendent.
Brocton Superintendent Richard Thom will retire June 29.
Board President Thomas Dispenza said it is more cost-effective if Timbs helps in the selection process.
"He speeds up the process," he said. "He's helped other schools in Chautauqua County go through the same procedures, so we're hoping that this will give us a higher-caliber candidate to interview."
"I am very impressed with his background, which is primarily business and finance as well as education," board Vice President Thomas DeJoe said.
He noted the alternative to Timbs was to use an outside consulting firm, which could cost nearly $10,000.
"Through his years of teaching, he's been involved with rural districts and he knows their needs. I feel confident he will do well for us," DeJoe said.
