A primary purpose of a newspaper is to educate its readers. The Buffalo News has succeeded in bringing information of the farming community to its readers through the columns of Bob Buyer and John Sillick.
Unfortunately, due to Buyer's retirement, his column on farming and food production will no longer be an integral part of the paper. Sillick continues to make us aware of the reality of living in a farming community with his "Alps Road Journal."< Buyer provided an awareness of the many hardships and concerns of the daily life of farmers. We, as consumers, fail to realize the difficulties in the growing of food, dependency on weather, prices, demands and competition, both domestic and foreign. I am grateful to those who choose to work in farming, toiling from dawn to dusk every day of the week.
