Railroad crossings in the towns of Hamburg and Collins and the villages of North Collins and Gowanda are being reconstructed for better traffic and rail safety, the office of Assemblyman Richard A. Smith, D-Hamburg, said this week. Smith got the funding through the state's multimodal transportation grant fund.
"During my years as Hamburg's highway superintendent, these crossings were always a concern," he said. Multiple ownership issues and a lack of public funding made them hazards for residents who had to drive across them. The new multimodal transportation grant fund makes reconstruction possible now, Smith said.
