A Corfu man died Wednesday morning after his pickup truck hit a utility pole and overturned into a culvert in the Town of Java, State Police in Boston said.
The wreckage, which landed beneath a railroad overpass, was spotted by a conductor for Arcade and Attica Railroad, police said. Alan J. Burfield, 18, of South Lake Road was pronounced dead at the scene by a Wyoming County coroner.
The discovery was reported at about 9:30 a.m.
Police said they determined the pickup was heading east on Beaver Meadow Road when Burfield lost control and it slammed into a telephone pole, the impact on the driver's door. The pickup overturned and landed at the base of an adjacent culvert.
