CARE FACILITY OPERATOR MUST SURRENDER LICENSE

The operator of Green Gables Adult Care Facility in Evans has been sentenced to surrender his state license after admitting that he stole funds from the personal accounts of his residents last year, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's office reports.

William Paul Cushnie, 60, of Lake Shore Road, Evans, pleaded guilty in State Supreme Court to a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny. He has paid $13,173 restitution and will perform 100 hours of community service. He was given a one-year conditional discharge.

Cushnie is expected to surrender his license by November after the nursing home is closed or sold.

Cushnie, who said he needed the money to meet operating expenses for the nursing home, admitted taking nearly $10,000 from the personal fund accounts of 15 residents and receiving a $5,000 "donation" from a mentally disturbed resident.
