Tim Hume of the Park Club, Fred Silver of Niagara Falls CC, Jim Smith of Crag Burn and Tom Johnson of Tan Tara advanced to today's semifinals of the Buffalo District Match-Play golf championship at the Country Club of Buffalo.
Hume advanced to his meeting with Silver by defeating Woody Arnold (Park) and Jay Stellrecht (Lancaster) in the first two rounds Monday at CCB. Silver defeated Crag Burn's Tony Hejna and Frank Broderick (East Aurora) in close matches. Smith eliminated Crag Burn clubmate Bob Battaglia and Tom Gantress (Sheridan). He will face Johnson, who scored victories over Charley Card (Sheridan) and Bob DeWitt (Transit Valley) to reach the semifinals.
Senior Rookie of the Year Johnny Petraglia took the lead after the second round of qualifying in the PBA Senior Tour Naples (Fla.) Senior Open with a 3,963 pinfall total. Petraglia, owner of 14 national and two senior titles, moved from third to first after 18 games. Gary Dickinson was second at 3,959.
Miami University (Ohio) barred its band from playing during halftime of Saturday's game against Marshall because some members were drinking, watching pornographic movies and mooning people during a trip. The band will be allowed to play before and after the game because it is on Parents' Day, spokesman Richard Little said.
