BLOODHOUND AIDS ARREST AFTER AMHERST BREAK-IN

Amherst police used a bloodhound to make an arrest in a burglary over the weekend.

Daniel C. Brancato, 23, of the 4000 block of Chestnut Ridge Road was charged Saturday with burglary, criminal impersonation and larceny.

At about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, the owners of a home on the 200 block of Woodcrest Drive heard noises in the garage and went to investigate. The found a man who claimed he was a plainclothes police officer going through their car, he police said. The owners called police to check, and the man ran away.

Brancato, was apprehended 45 minutes later with help from Abbey, the North Tonawanda Police Department's bloodhound.

Amherst police were seeking to determine whether Brancato also tried breaking into a home on the 100 block of Hillcrest Drive that same night.
