The Akron Central School Board has appointed Kenneth J. Dyl, retired superintendent of Cleveland Hill Schools, to serve as interim superintendent at $350 a day until a new superintendent is hired.
Dyl was appointed after James C. Holler, the board's first candidate for the interim position, decided last week that he couldn't fulfill the obligations because of personal reasons, according to Loraine Loewen, school business administrator.
Dyl, who has worked with Erie I Board of Cooperative Educational Services, currently works on a interim basis with the City of Tonawanda school system as a business official, Mrs. Lowen said.
A search committee, which will make recommendations to the board, will begin reviewing files of applicants for the superintendent's job Oct. 16, school officials said.
Donald A. Ogilvie, BOCES district superintendent, is aiding the search for a successor to Allen R. Derry, who left early this month to become superintendent in New Paltz.
The board hopes to appoint a new superintendent by Dec. 15.
