After making people laugh in slapstick movies like "The Naked Gun" series, Leslie Nielsen is finding it hard for some people to take him seriously.
The 73-year-old actor was to appear here Saturday night in the one-man play "Clarence Darrow," about the legendary defense attorney. He said that in a previous performance, some audience members giggled inexplicably.
"They were laughing in crazy places. I realized it had to be because they expected me to be funny," he said.
The play includes Darrow's famous defense in 1925 of Tennessee science teacher John Scopes, who was convicted of violating a state law making it a crime to teach evolution.
