RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS

Restaurant inspections are conducted by the Niagara County Health Department.

Many restaurants will have violations at some time. They are coded by the health department as: Critical, which could lead to food-borne illness and which require immediate attention; or as items relating to sanitation, design, maintenance and cleanliness, which must be corrected by the next regular inspection or as soon as an inspector returns.

LEWISTON
Sister's Cafe, 790 Center St. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (single-service tableware needs to be stored with handles facing up and single-service cups not properly dispensed; improper thawing procedures used, correct procedures reviewed). Inspected Aug. 26.

Schimschack's Restaurant, 2943 Upper Mountain Road. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (pipe leaking in basement, plumber called; two boxes of potatoes need to be stored off floor on pallets with others). Inspected Sept. 10.

LOCKPORT
Mischief Makers Day Care, 225 East Ave. No violations. Inspected Aug. 19.

NIAGARA FALLS
Spallino Towers, 720 10th St. No violations. Inspected Aug. 12.

Wrobel Towers, 800 Niagara Ave. No violations. Inspected Aug. 16.

Arby's Roast Beef Restaurant, 760 Portage Road. Critical violations: One (refrigeration unit at sandwich prep area is not kept at safe cool temperatures, potentially hazardous foods moved and repairman will be called). Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (some ceiling tiles missing in kitchen and food prep area; inner lining of ice machine is in disrepair). Inspected Aug. 18. As of reinspection Sept. 16, all previous violations remain corrected.

Chu's Dining Lounge, 1019 Main St. No violations. Inspected Sept. 10.

Crossroads Cafe, 7700 Niagara Falls Blvd. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (slicer with food build-up needs to be cleaned; air conditioning unit not properly drained). Inspected Aug. 24. As of reinspection Sept. 16, all previous violations remain corrected.

NORTH TONAWANDA
Ted's Jumbo Red Hots, 333 Meadow Drive. Critical violations: One (bottle of blue spray not labeled properly). Sanitation, design, etc.: One (bin of white substance not labeled for contents). Inspected Aug. 9.

TOWN OF ROYALTON
Party Time Catering, 8060 Rochester Road. No violations. Inspected Aug. 26.

Spanky's, 29 Main St. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: One (some glasses improperly stored on paper toweling). Inspected Aug. 16.

WHEATFIELD
Papa Joe's, 2546 Niagara Falls Blvd. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: One (sliding door tracks on cooler have accumulation of grime). Inspected Aug. 31.

Papa Leo's, 2265 Niagara Falls Blvd. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Two (condenser drain hose is dripping into bucket and splattering on floor; no easily cleanable surface on shelves and ceiling over shelf area). Inspected Aug. 18.

WILSON
Scheffler's Restaurant, 291 Young St. No critical violations. Sanitation, design, etc.: Six (wiping cloths not stored in sanitizing solution; counters not sanitized after use; utensils in bucket need to be stored with handles facing up; one louvre is missing from hood; floor in back room had food spill with foul odor; freezers need to be defrosted). Inspected Aug. 30.
