The duel between trainers Bob Baffert and D. Wayne Lukas failed to materialize Saturday at Turfway Park as 60-1 long shot Da Devil won the $500,000 Kentucky Cup Classic.

Da Devil, ridden by Calvin Borel, circled horses at the top of the stretch and maintained a half-length lead over Social Charter the rest of the way.

The race had shaped up as a duel between Classic Cat, trained by Baffert, and Cat Thief, trained by Lukas. Cat Thief finished third and Classic Cat faded to seventh in the eight-horse field.

Borel picked up the mount because of an injury to regular rider Joseph Judice.
