Alfred University is offering two free public programs at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The annual foreign film festival begins in the Nevins Theater in the Powell Campus Center with the movie "Brother of Sleep." The film depicts the life of the Austrian musician Johannes Alder as he struggles with his talent and his love for a cousin.

Also at 7:30, in the science center, Audrey Meyer, dean of the Sea Education Association at Woods Hole, Mass., will discuss programs offered to high school and college students, as well as teachers.
