Walter W. Howitt, 82, former East Aurora village attorney, died Wednesday (Sept. 22, 1999) in Jones Memorial Hospital.
Born in Conesus, he graduated from Wayland High School and Geneseo Normal School. He began a teaching career in Andover, then served in the Army in World War II with the 24th Infantry Division in the Pacific.
After the war, he earned a degree from the University of Buffalo Law School and practiced law in Buffalo and East Aurora for 50 years. He served as East Aurora village attorney for 23 years.
He was a member of the East Aurora Best Men's Club and Baker Memorial Methodist Church in East Aurora. He moved to Wellsville early last year.
He and the former Esther Brayley were married in 1945. She died in 1996.
Survivors include a son, Richard; a brother, Ralph of Redwood City, Calif.; a sister, Laura Craft of Conesus Lake; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Reed Cemetery, Oakfield.
