State Transportation Department Resident Engineer Joe Miletti is getting a pat on his green thumb at 10:30 a.m. today.

The Allegany County Tourism Promotion Council is presenting him a certificate -- at the rest stop he landscaped and beautified -- in gratitude for that work. County Legislator William Dibble, R-Little Genesee, said the council is honoring Miletti for leading the effort to make the Friendship rest stop "the best in Western New York."

The stop is on the eastbound side of Route 17, the Southern Tier Expressway. Now, with flowers planted and in bloom, it is a model for other such projects in the state. Dibble said the DOT is using Miletti's drawings as a template for other rest area beautification efforts.
