Joseph G. Washco, 83, of North Ninth Street, who retired in 1978 from what was then the Union Carbide plant in Niagara Falls, died Wednesday (Sept. 22, 1999) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born in Nanticoke, Pa., and lived in Lewiston since 1956.
He was a ground crew chief with the Army Air Forces during World War II.
Washco worked at Union Carbide for 36 years, holding several positions and retiring in 1978 as the assistant design engineer.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and of several amateur radio clubs.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mary L. Snyder; a son, George W. of Rye; a daughter, Margaret Lynch of Lockport; a sister, Margaret Kennedy of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a brother, Leonard of Bethlehem, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hardison Funeral Home, North Fourth and Ridge streets. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
