Hubert A. Rider, 85, a retired Dunlop Tire Corp. worker and an active volunteer firefighter, died Wednesday (Sept. 22, 1999) in his Town of Tonawanda home after a long illness.
Born in Buffalo, he worked as a inspector in the warehouse at Dunlop until he retired in 1976 after 36 years with the company.
He was a life member of the Sheridan Park Volunteer Fire Company and a charter member of the Sheridan Park Exempt Fire Association. He served as a captain of the Sheridan Park Fire Police Squad. He was a member and a past vice president of the Erie County Fire Police Association.
He and his wife, the former Dorothy Anne Cassidy, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 9.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, David, Richard and Randall, all of the Town of Tonawanda; a daughter, Roseanne Jones of Grand Island; three brothers, Frank and Joseph "Bud," both of the Town of Tonawanda, and Harold "Red" of Barker; a sister, Myna Trojanowski of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 565 East Park Drive, Town of Tonawanda. Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
