EX-TEACHER JAILED IN CHILD PORN

Former Letchworth Central School second-grade teacher Douglas Bedient is going to federal prison for his guilty plea to possession of child pornography.

Bedient, 32, of Perry, received a 16-month sentence Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Buffalo. Judge John T. Elfvin also sentenced Bedient to three years of supervised release after his prison term, and during that period he cannot have any kind of computer media or Internet access in his house.

He must also undergo continuing therapy as determined by a probation officer, and his house will be subject to search by probation personnel without a warrant.

In October, Bedient was arrested after police and the FBI raided his home and found computer discs containing images of children having sex. He was charged with possession of child pornography and pleaded not guilty.

He was suspended with pay from his job at Letchworth. Bedient will serve his time in a court-recommended federal prison in North Carolina.
