No. 8 Virginia Tech (3-0) got a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown by Ike Charlton and a 32-yard fumble return for a score from Corey Moore, both in the last 3:09, to salt away a 31-11 win over visiting Clemson (1-2) in college football Thursday night.

At Delaware, Ohio, Blissfull Hall won the Little Brown Jug in a raceoff to move within a win of capturing pacing's triple crown. Blissfull Hall, winner of the Cane Pace earlier this month at Freehold, N.J., shoots for the triple crown and a $250,000 bonus in the Messenger Stakes on Oct. 16 at The Meadows at Meadow Lands, Pa.

Guard Muggsy Bogues, a 12-year veteran who is 5-foot-3, signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Raptors, reportedly worth $1 million.

In other NBA news, St. Louis billionaire Bill Laurie announced he is buying the Vancouver Grizzlies for $200 million.

"We have no current plan to move the Grizzlies," said Bill Laurie, who refused to give any assurances he won't move the team in the next year or two.

Laurie also owns the St. Louis Blues and the Kiel Center in St. Louis.

Franchises wanting to relocate must submit a petition to the league before March 1 in order to move for the following season. But the Grizzlies are prohibited by their expansion agreement from making such an application before May 15, 2000.

Lleyton Hewitt and Davis Cup rookie Wayne Arthurs gave Australia a 2-0 lead over Russia today in the Davis Cup semifinals. The 29-year-old Arthurs, beat second-ranked Yevgeny Kafelnikov, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-0. Hewitt beat Marat Safin, 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
