A state trooper is facing a charge of statutory rape for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old neighbor.
Matthew Turrie, 25, who lives with his mother in a Rochester suburb, was charged Friday with third-degree rape, which carries a four-year prison sentence, and freed on $2,500 bail. He also was suspended without pay.
Turrie had sex on one occasion with the girl, prosecutors said. Although she said she was not forced, state law decrees that anyone younger than 17 is too young to consent to sex.
Turrie has been a trooper for three years.
