The City of Salamanca has received a $100,359 grant for three years to place a city police officer in the Salamanca Central School District.
Carmen Vecchiarella said the city will be reimbursed for salary and expenses of hiring an additional officer under the Community Oriented Police Services grant through the U.S. Department of Justice.
"This grant will be helpful in seeing that the school is monitored more closely," Vecchiarella said.
Police Chief Edward Gimbrone will oversee the grant. The funding will bring the total number of full-time police officers in the city up to 16.
