The landmark Castle Restaurant is reopening in Olean Friday, featuring an expanded menu and a refurbished interior under the management of the founder's grandson.

New owner Stephen D. Butchello plans to continue serving dishes made with the family's Italian recipes and to revive the unique dining tradition begun in 1946 by his grandfather, Guerino "Butch" Butchello. Loretto Dressing and Spaghetti Sauce produced by the family are to be included on the menu.

Up to 40 full- and part-time staff will prepare and serve diners a range of items, including what promises to be the largest vegetarian menu in the area. Beginning Tuesday, a $5.95 lunch buffet will also be served. Under the restaurant's legendary stone towers, 10 dining rooms and banquet facilities will accommodate 1,086 people. Parties of up to 500 can be accommodated.
