The Buffalo Audubon Society will hold groundbreaking ceremonies at 1 p.m. Saturday for the expansion of its Beaver Meadow Nature Center, 1610 Welch Road, North Java.

The program also will include live animal exhibits, guided nature walks and a chicken barbecue.

The new facility will contain two classrooms, large meeting rooms and gallery space, more exhibit space for natural history collections and libraries, and better public accommodations.

During the past two years, the society has raised more than $600,000 toward the $750,000 needed for the project, which will triple the size of the visitor center.
